Reed Trimming and Epoxy Baffles

Today's lesson seemed pretty short. it went by pretty fast. We were talkin about reed trimming and add on baffles, permanent ones. basically, wat i wanna achieve is a bright cuttin sound, but yet with enough depth to the dynamic range. the short facing on my mp doesnt really help cos it thins the sound. it's a good thing dat i have a much larger chamber to give more depth to those lower notes.

addin a baffle to the mp is sumthin more or less permanent and it requires great skill and timing in order not to screw up, cos once the epoxy hardens, it's on the mp for good. removing it will be close to impossible, without certain high risk of damage to the mouthpiece. studyin the interior structure of the mouthpiece is paramount. understanding how the added baffle will help to aid the sound is very impt. basically the labour is extremely tough and involves really high risk. once it's screwed, the mp is a goner.

boon chye offered to make one for me but told me of the high risks involved. the other alternative is to learn to shave reeds and make them more playable. dat's a gd thing too cos u save money by makin previously unplayable reeds more playable. high risks.. hm.. well i've been known to take the road less travelled so, i might very well subject the mp to alot of risk. but first, i'd learn to trim the reeds. i've realised dat out of the whole sheet of blu tack i bought, i'v only use a small pinch of it from the corner for baffle material, and dat small amount really made a hell lot of difference in my sound! it was extremely bright! i dunno whether i want to be dat bright but well, i guess i'd just extend out the baffle a little more and not touch the chamber. we'll see how things goes, but i really like the idea of an extended baffle. i think dat really makes more difference than the reeds.
