Got my V 16s
yeah finally, 2.5 V16 reeds~ nice~ i kinda think they are a little softer than the Java 3s even though they are supposed to have more wood. cool stuff, rite now i have Java 3s, ZZ 3s, Trad 2.5s and V16 2.5s~ wonderful, i can go experiment with sounds now given my new mouthpiece! hahaha!
i also bought blu tack for some make shift removable baffle for the mp~ apparently, a slight change in the baffle will result in a hellota difference! i give u an example, compare Stan Getz's sound on "The Girl From Ipanema" to the very famous saxophone solo parts in George Michael's famous "Careless Whispers". Alot of difference aint? ok it's not a fair comparison cos Getz plays a tenor while the sax in "Careless Whispers" sounds more like dat of alto or even soprano sax. but anyway, yeah Getz's sound is wat saxophonists term as 'dark' while dat in CW is 'bright' or 'brilliant'.
so wat i'm tryin to say is dat the baffle is wat it takes to make one sound like stan getz all the way to this guy playin the CW solos :) a little bit of it goes a looong way~ i'm tryin to experiment with the blu tac because it can give me more baffle, making me sounds much brighter. i'm aiming for a pretty bright sound dat'll blow ppl away :P ahahha! basically, the brighter or more brilliant one is, the easier he can cut thru the sounds of electric guitars and amps etc etc~ dat's why many rock players aim for a really bright robust sound while the classical players, wanting to blend in rather than stand out would choose a much darker sound. jazz musicians are sorta in betw depending if u play big band jazz (more blending in) or bebop (more soloing).
as for me, i wanna play big band, bebop, avant garde, fusion, rock, pop, watever sorta jazz there is.. yeah. basically almost everything lah ya, cept maybe classical~ but hey dats impt. i reckon i'll have a hellota mouthpieces to deal with in the near future. for right now, i needa experiment...
