My Education Goal
There are some really impt goals i have to make this year in 2008. Gotta up the ante a little bit more than before :)
I'm just gonna list one cos there are some i havent finalised. Having to blog it down gives me a clearer idea of it and propels me towards the goal :D
SPECIFICS
This year, one very specific goal of mine is to increase my knowledge of the Jap language in the areas of Grammar, Colloquial Expression, & Kanji. This is concurrent with my ultimate goal of being able to converse, read, listen and understand japanese without difficulty.
How can i measure this? Hm, many ways.
MEASURING SUCCESS
1. I would consider myself to be successful when i come across grammatical structures and i can totally understand not only the meaning of the sentence on the surface, but also the hidden subtext conveyed. So whether it's watching Cyril Takayama magic online or watever, i should be able to understand the Japanese cg text/subtitles of variety shows, written passages etc.
2. For Colloquial Expressions, the best way to know that would be to read some manga and be able to understand the meaning behind certain sentences since i won't find this type of usage in conventional textbooks. I.e I should be able to translate some pretty simple manga within the year :D
3. As for Kanji, yea the same strategy is to measure success by being able to read kanji in whatever literature or text which i come across. But since there are like thousands of them, all the more so, i must be able to identify and know those which i have studied :)
4. Lastly, a sure sign is to pass all my internal sch exams and not only pass, but to attain a high distinction in each paper, at least 90 marks and above. I will settle for nothing less. With Korean, i managed twice in a row. With Japanese, i should be even more able to ace it :) Here we go!
ACTION PLANS
The action plan is really straightforward.
1. Read more, study more. Put in a MINIMUM of 2 hours of Japanese Language studies EVERYDAY for the entire year. Whenever i come across something i don't really know, study it and find out about it until i can find an understanding towards it on my own :) Otherwise.. KIV and move on to step 2.
2. Pepsi - ASK FOR MORE (or is it a Coke slogan? Watever...cant remember). Ask my Jap language teacher anything and everything which i have been studying and meditating over in each week and which has been baffling me. Ask till my doubts have been clarified and ask till i totally and entirely grasp the understandiing.
3. TALK MORE. Yeah, i will use every opportunity i can to talk to Taka online in Japanese and especially to my language teacher. Hey, i could even build a frenship with my teacher over a meal or something and converse more in Jap ahaha! Yeah~
REALISTIC?
Yeah of cos this goal is very realistic, doable and attainable.
TIME FRAME
The time frame will be throughout the entire year~
EXPECTATION MANAGEMENT
I will make necessary adjustments when i am really busy, like during Drama big days etc. Maybe i'll be forced to cut down my studying time etc. If so, then i'll focus on working my weaker areas in the language.
REVELATION
From the Amplified Bible - Genesis 11:4 & 6
4 Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”
6 “Look!” He said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!
The people were focused and they spoke with the language of one accord, one mind, one goal :) This is very much the approach i take towards my language. The goal ultimately is to communicate without difficulty.
And as the last part of verse 4 puts it - "keep us from being scattered all over the world”; to bridge cultures and peoples and to foster understanding of each other :) And ultimately, to bring the Gospel into the land of the rising sun :)
Yup, so i'm gonna do my best to fulfill this goal :D GANBARE!
