If You Consider Yourself A Reasonable Person, Read On...

Looking back, it's been a long time since i last blogged. Yeah like more than half a month ago.

I was just reading a really good book the past week or so titled "The Case For Christ" (youth edition) by Lee Strobel. Strobel is an award winning journalist who wrote this book based on his very own investigations and discoveries on the life, history and authenticity of Jesus Christ. I came across this book during one of the days when i was at SAFTI Military Institute doing the SAF Day rehearsal. One of the band members from the other band had the book. When i read it for the first time, wow, the presence of God just swept through me and i was weeping so hard.. i had to control myself cos there were like a number of ppl around me.

What he said in the back cover of the book really made sense to me. Paraphrasing it, Jesus Christ - The man who claimed to be THE Son of God, who performed numerous miracles such as raising the dead and healing the sick amongst them, who claimed to forgive sin, and most outrageously of all died and rose again to heaven from the grave. So just who is He dat a reasonable person should believe in Him? How can someone like dat deserve the wholeheartedness of a reasonable person rite? I mean any person in his right mind wouldnt care less about Jesus Christ...

BUT, a REASONABLE person wouldnt cast aside all facts before coming to a conclusion about Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, a reasonable person wouldnt dismiss Christ without giving the evidence a fair trial and really studying the facts well :) And dat's wat Lee Strobel did.. From being an atheist, his own investigations into Christ lead him to believe dat Jesus indeed was who He claimed to be and he subsequently became a Christian.

But the one thing i found really really powerful... was the fact dat Lee strobel mentioned in his book the following which i paraphrased:

Now before Strobel became a Christian; this was when he was very long into his 3 year investigation on Christ, he said dat he started reading the bible and taking it like the book dat it undeniably is - No, not the Word of God (in the eyes of a non-believer), BUT a collection of ancient historical and poetic manuscripts which included wise sayings etc. Strobel took the bible, and he started applying some of the principles which the bible taught about forgiveness etc etc, being kind to one another etc.. AND he found dat his life took a turn for the better!

He found dat he could curb his anger better, he could handle depression better, AND his relations with others become better! So this one thing really hit me.. and over time, as Strobel experienced this, he began to believe dat indeed, the God of the bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is a true living God! Because he had EXPERIENCED God for himself when he did wat he read about from the bible. So logical thinking will then draw you to the conclusion dat, if wat the bible says is true, then wat the bible says about God must be true too because the bible is God's Word and vice versa. So then if wat God says is true, then wat God says about Jesus Christ in His own Word, must be true as well rite? Logical as it is~ Yes.

So where Jesus Christ is concerned, it is either ALL or NOT. Because you just have to prove dat one aspect of Jesus Christ is wrong, then all His other aspects will crumble because they dun hold anymore weight. For example, many believe dat Jesus Christ was merely a very good moral teacher and nothing more. He was not the Son of God. BUT then, Jesus himself in the bible, claimed to be the Son of God and He claimed to be the only way to God. Now to make such a bold statement like dat right, you either got to be ALL or NOT. So if Jesus was a good moral teacher, then either he was lying about being the Son of God in which case he wasnt the good moral teacher after all because a good moral teacher wouldnt lie at all, OR he was truly THE Son of GOd! The example is more clearly explained in the book~

Ok back to the earlier point, if a non-believer like Strobel then, could have his life impacted like dat.. then it only makes good REASONABLE sense to believe dat indeed, there is something about this God of this book called the bible, who makes my life like a heaven on earth! And it makes reasonable sense to believe dat this God is a REAL God :) Why? Because if you've experienced something dat is real, you cant say it's fake. Just like when you've had the experience of wat it is like to be drowning in deep water, you can't deny dat you dun know wat it's like to be drowning and gasping and struggling for air rite?

And if u tell someone dat experience, you'd get two reactions. Either they really believe you, or they don't (some scoff). Simple? Yeah, for those who didnt believe you, dat is because they just didnt have the experience dat you had, to know how horrifying it can be to drown. They probably just need to experience wat it's like to be drowning before they can finally understand wat it means. BUT, i'm not saying dat you should experience EVERYTHING to know dat something is good or bad. We're human beings, intelligent creatures, and we have a brain dat tells us dat if you stand in the middle of the Pan Island Expressway at rush hour traffic at 5pm on a monday blues evening, chances are YOU WILL BE KILLED BY ONCOMING VEHICLES!

We dun have to experience everything, dat is why we don't live alone on this planet. Dat is wat others' experiences are for.. so dat we can learn wat is right and wrong from them, so dat we can learn dat if we do drugs, we gonna suffer the horrible withdrawal symptoms, dat if we murder someone, we'll be hanged etc etc.. dat if we see how God can change the lives of our frens and family, THEN He certainly can change our life too! :)

Someone once told me dat it costs me nothing to experience the presence and power of God and there's nothing i would lose but i would have ALL to gain :) i dun quite agree with dat. Indeed, till this day, i have lost and still keep on losing things when i experience God. *Grinz* But the only things i've lost are my sins (cos God forgave them through the blood of His Son Jesus), my bad habits, anger, lusts (because God renews my mind daily) etc etc.. all the bad things i've lost~ Yes dat's for sure :D But the good things i have kept, and God multiplied them! He multiplied the way i love ppl, He multiplied my positivity in life, my talents and abilities, the way i share and give etc~ So yes, you lose some and you gain ALOT MORE. And wat you stand to gain is far more than wat you lose! And u'd be glad you lost those anyway :)

And so the story goes, we all NEED to experience Jesus Christ for ourselves, in the power of His Holy Spirit. And guess wat, experiencing this wun kill us. No, we can see from billions of examples around the world how this is a good positive experience~ Just ask your borned again Christian friend~ I believe he/she will gladly share with you his/her experience :D OR, you can always ask me :)

So my closing line is this, IF you're a reasonable person, i challenge you to investigate the facts for yourself, lay out all the evidence for and against Christ and draw your own conclusion. Dat is exactly wat Lee Strobel did. You can get his book from any 'Popular' bookstore in Singapore or any Christian bookstore in town. And i hope dat you experience God the way Strobel and I did for our own selves.
