You Will Never Walk Alone!
Today's work in camp was like the easiest.. Almost everybody was gone, i was doing barrack orderly duty in the company and yeah hardly any phonecalls. Later on after the lunchtime fall-in, i went back down to my bunk where we had a stand-down till further orders. So i decided to spend my time well by reading my bible and other stuff~
And yes, perhaps some of us would already know by now that Liverpool came back against all odds to defeat AC Milan in the Champions League final! And yea, boy was it a game dat really had hearts thumping and screaming! To sum up the match, AC Milan dealt Liverpool 3 early blows in the first half, taking a 3-0 lead before halftime. At this point in time, many Liverpool fans thought the game ended prematurely. Some even thought of the impending thrashing at which AC Milan would give to the Reds during the 2nd half. Many gave up thinking dat it was all over.. Yes Liverpool needed a miracle to stage a comeback.
However, the 2nd half of the match saw a change of the tide of events. Within a space of 6 minutes, their miracle happened. The game was levelled at 3 a piece. Wild thoughts must have gone through the minds of the AC Milan players, surely they thought their early 3 goal lead was enough to put the final nail in the coffin for the Liverpool team. The game was forced into extra time and then a penalty shoot out which saw the Reds taking home the European Cup with a 3-2 defeat over the formidable AC Milan team.
I was reading Thursday's edition of The New Paper and there were like 19 pages of sports news dedicated to the story of this unbelievable match! I practically saw red with every page dat i flipped~ :) And while reading the stories of how the Reds came back against a team of formidable might, against all odds, against the seemingly impossible, i felt a surge of emotion within me. I could feel dat great sense of victory even though i didnt watch the full match.. but reading the articles, it was just as though i'd experienced every bit of the match played. Deep within i was crying, with some form of incredulous joy i think~ I could almost feel my tears sinking down into the pit of my empty stomach. Cant really describe it, but it's the kinda joy dat comes to you when you feel dat just as everything seemed to be crumbling before you, suddenly, you are raised from the dead and you conquer the impossible! And only a miracle could have brought about dat kinda victory~
Indeed, while reading each article, i felt the Holy Spirit speak to me gently~ Yeah it's amazing how the Holy Spirit can speak to you in all sorts of ways and means through different mediums not exclusively from the bible even! I just cane to a realisation dat this truly parallels the end times; yeah this match.. the day will come when the antichrist with all his evil forces will surround Israel and just as it seemed dat he would destroy the holy city of Jerusalem, Jesus would return and once and for all destroy him utterly! The Holy Spirit once again reaasured me dat i am standing on the right side~
You know, as true believers in Christ, we'd all come across times when everything in our lives seem to be falling apart and it's like there is no way to pick ourselves up.. Exactly how the Liverpool side must have felt during the first half of the game. But it is in times like these dat we must draw upon the strength of the Lord. We must focus on Him and rely on His power, keep walking through the hell we're in, continually praying for dat miracle breathrough in our lives!
This match was played at the Ataturk Stadium in Turkey and could sit about 80,000 people. Supporters for Liverpool outnumbered the Milan supporters by 8 to 1. I was reading one of the articles, and it said dat at one point after the 3rd goal by Milan, their supporters unveiled a huge banner of support for their team dat stretched from one point to another of the Milan crowd. Instead of being intimidated, the Liverpool fans starting shoring up the support for their team by singing their trademark song 'You'll Never Walk Alone' - in one unison chorus. It was so loud, the Reds drowned out the Milan supporters!
I just wanna point out dat the devil can knock you down hard.. 1 goal, 2 goals, 3.. yeah.. he can use whatever tricks up his sleeve to demoralise the spirits of the saints, but one of the things he has no control over is our powerful prayers. We need to keep praying and praying.. fervently without wavering! We can drown him out with our prayers! Dat all host of hell will not be able to stand against the saints of Christ, dat no weapon formed against us shall prosper!
Another name dat became famous overnight was Jerzy Dudek - Liverpool's mistake prone goalkeeper. Ironically, he was the man who saved a number of vital strikes from Milan's deadliest striker Andriy Shevchenko, including a penalty which gave the Reds the European Cup! Jerzy Dudek was famous, or rather infamous for his error prone goalkeeping ways throughout his career at Liverpool. He would concede seemingly easy shots. However, he gave a superb performance against an opponent who had among them the biggest names in the world of football. And this reminded of a verse in the Bible dat says the stone which the builders rejected became the chief cornerstone! This is of course talking about Jesus Christ~ Indeed, just as Israel is about to succumb to the might of the antichrist in the battle of Armegeddon, suddenly the heavens will split open and Christ will decend from heaven and destroy the enemies of Israel!
And yes indeed, we will never walk alone.. No~ because God has given us a promise dat He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). When we walk through hell, we never walk alone, because our Lord is with us. His rod and staff, they comfort us. Ultimately, we take joy in knowing that victory is ours! Because Christ has given us the victory through his blood which was shed for our sins. As for me, I know my God will come through for me everytime i rely on Him~ And yea, if God is for me, then no one can be against me! Not even satan himself. Not a chance at all.. As Pst Phil said, God is good the devil is bad and we win all the time! I know which side i'm on and i thank God that i'm on His side.
The newspapers reported dat this match would go down in football history as one unbelievable rollercoaster of a match of which all odds were defied by Liverpool and ppl would mention it even 50 years down the road.. But, we've got a better win. And our win would not only be mentioned 50 years down the road.. no.. it will be remembered for all eternity! A victory dat will be dubbed THE VICTORY of all time - when the saints of God destroy the antichrist and his evil forces, when the bride of Christ is caught up in heaven and comes back returning to judge all the wicked and unrighteous of the world! Yeah, i for one, definitely want to make the team for that match! :D
