Voice It Out

I was watching Nobuya Sugawa perform together with the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra on DVD with
nizam at the band library yesterday. Yeah the world famous kosei wind orchestra~ Wow, i
think my respect for Sugawa has really heightened alot especially after seeing and hearing
how good a player he is.

Honestly i've never listened to classical saxophonists at all until i was introduced to this guy.
And wow, yeah the way he expresses on the sax is formidable man~ Every intricate nuance can be
captured by his expressive style. Dat's wat i like him for best of all~ And then his tone is crystal
clear! I mean.. he makes the sax sound like a violin man.. the tone is pristine, bright but
unadulteratedly pure, and the way he controls the tone is like wow.. truly amazing.. yeah and
dat's why he's a professor of saxophone :D

Very inspiring i must say~ Recently, i've been thinking alot about the subject of overtones,
altissimo and voicing.. never did realise how impt a technique it is to my collection
of sax tricks~ But yeah, i've heard about it during the time i did research on the sax but never
did pursue it. i'm a little regretful about dat but yeah it's not too late at all to begin experimenting~
So i went on an online shopping spree again. Went to amazon to get this book called Top Tones For
The Saxophone by Sigurd Rascher. It's probably the most famous and useful book on the subject
of voicing, altissimo and overtone studies.

Basically, voicing helps in altissimo production because you can sing out the note you want to
play and it comes out easier and you can slur from altissimo to altissimo or do a really cool
smear from note to note without any breaks in betw. And the sax can be played like a bugle, the
same way a clarinet can be played as well.. simply just by voicing the notes. Pretty cool huh?

Anyway, i've got two offers for my sax! Dat is great man :D i think after i sell it off, i can
use the money and raise a little more for a new sax - my dream sax YAS82Z UNLACQUERED!
Yeah, i'm looking forward to owning one of those~ Thank God also, i'm getting a string of off
days in lieu and yeah gonna have a much needed lesson with Boon Chye after like such a long hiatus..
i think i'll learn something from him then~ Gotta ask him a lot of things dat have been buggin me recently~
