Throat Tones
After a session of experimenting today.. i finally found wat it meant and feels like to use the throat to produce a high pitched altissimo note.. and i can tell you.. it was super high.. like way out of the stratosphere man... got a little sore throat after dat but yeah dat's a good sign cos dat means i'm doing it correctly~ After a while, it'll go away~
I think i must have really busted the ears of all those who were around me dat time while i was practising.. sorry about dat hahaha! it's pretty incredible though because the whole concept of smearing notes (glidin from note to note without breakage) is quite easy to master once you understand how your throat is functioning at dat point in time and also how to control the size of the throat cavity, expanding and contracting it to get the various spans of the whole range of notes. The whole idea after dat is to refine each note to make it sound full bodied and strong.
Really pity the poor cleaner who was cleaning the toilet then cos i was there in front of the mirror just blasting away on the mouthpiece alone so yeah it was a terribly high pitched process going on.. something like a screaming banshee or worse.. haha!
And yes, alec tried out the sax today and from the looks of it, i think he's pretty much considering it! i hope he likes it~ He had a very nice pure tone. slightly bright but rather clean. Reminded me of sugawa's tone somewhat~ anyway, yeap if the deal's settled, then i'd look to be getting the unlacquered sax soon :D pretty looking forward to it :D
i've been pondering over my metal yana mouthpiece for quite a while. Dunno whether i should put a small baffle inside it.. i might but yeah i havent been doing a good succesful enough baffle the past few times with my beechler so i'm a little adamant.. but i think i'd give it another try this time after i plan how to construct the baffle. The most challenging portion is the initial entry of the baffle.. it must be totally smooth to ensure the airflow goes in without obstruction which would result in resistance in the mouthpiece. And dat's also the part which is hardest to achieve.. we'll see how it goes.. i'll post updates~ maybe even pictures
