Nasty Rusty Springs

Didnt realise dat they would get so rusty until one fine day when i was giving the sax a much
more thorough cleanup.. gosh, now i'm gonna have to slowly sandpaper all the rust away, give
the springs a coat of cork grease and then complete with oiling of the hinges.. dat's gonna be
tonight after i have a date with the Esplanade :D

The Problem With Reeds

I realised dat reeds die the fastest when they are depleted of moisture within.. and they
become hard. just today i found out why all my reeds suddenly played harder than usual.
Previously, i wouldnt wash the reed at all after play because washing apparently depletes the
lifespan of the reed. also, the layer of saliva around the reed sorta traps moisture inside the
reed and is a gd thing. after i started washing the reeds, i washed away the protective layer
also and this allowed moisture inside the reed to escape.

now when this happened, all the response of the reeds start to die because of the lack of
adequate moisture dat is vital for the reed to play well. The same scenario happened when
i used silica gel on the reeds. The queer bizarre similarity betw the gel and washing was dat
all the reeds died TOGETHER, SUDDENLY and the nite before played VERY WELL.

now doesnt this remind you of SUDS or SUdden Death Syndrome?? yeah~ it's exactly like dat with the
reed and i hope these guys can still be saved from dehydration... i've since been licking them
and storing them back in the reed case. hope i dun have to spend extra money on new reeds
again...
