Beautiful Day For The Blues
Just had to blog this~ rite now the sky overhead is just simply beautiful~ clear rich blue sky with fluffy white cumulus clouds~ beautiful~
Also, just an observation.. i've noticed dat all the David Sanborn blues songs dat i've heard all have one very similar pattern. First off, he creates the mood, sets the direction of the tune and then he changes course and makes u even more blue, then slowly and slowly he ups the ante with some really emotional laden instrumentals and this is the moment where u just cry ur heart out and it reaches the peak. after the peak, things gotta come back down to earth again and from dat sad tone, he makes everything sound fine and cheery again~ like after a whole huge bawling episode, it's time to wipe the tears and smile again~
This is especially evident in Georgia On My Mind and Since I Fell For You. Similar pattern~ There's alot of plot turning points dat kinda thing~ from melancholy, it becomes like hey i'm a new person again dat sorta feeling~ I
In 'Georgia On My Mind', the B3 gospel kinda organ is very vital in creating such an effect~ Drums sets a simple triplet groove and the bass follows suit. There's also a violin and brass section in the background. The violins giving long tones dat serve to backup the organ and bass. The brass section comes in at the end part where there's alot of happy afterblues emotion with its staccato bursts. Electric guitar is heard in the background also. Of course the main instrument would be the sax which drives the melody and the angst and the high notes and wat not to complete the song~ The sax here is like the main character, the protagonist trying to express itself. In blues, all the supporting characters complement the protagonist instrument, not antagonize it~
