BLUES BLUES BLUES~~~
Today has been yet another giant leap forward into a whole new area of practise and learning.
Today, i finally got the chance to play the Blues! Boon Chye and i did some improvisation on
some Latin Blues over the B Blues scale and man dat was really gd fun~ there's just so much
to the Blues i tell you.. the improvisation is endless! anyway, more of this later~
Besides dat, i got my neck recorked today sponsored by BC~ this should stabilise the tone and
bring out the true playing characteristics of the sax~ havent tried it out yet. also, i decided to
employ his special secret technique and we modifed a certain area of the sax today~ the result:
Drastic improvement in the response of the entire registers and a more free playing sax!~ the
change is awesome man. now with the recork, it's a matter of balancing the sax to achieve the
optimum response and best tonal colour~
Anyway, we did Blues today, just skimmed the surface of wat we'll be intensely studying in the
weeks to come~ The Blues scale is pretty interesting~ there's no such thing as a minor or major
Blues scale~ the same scale is used in play but the chordal instruments determine whether the
scale is refered to as minor or major. anyway, the Blues scale looks somethin like this:
B D E F F# A B
The above is the Blues scale in the key of B. In effect, the semitone jumps for the Blues is as such -
321132.
Therefore, all Blues scales are as such starting from G:
G
G Bb C Db D F G
G#/Ab
Ab B Db D Eb Gb/F# Ab
A
A C D Eb E G A
A#/Bb
Bb Db Eb E F Ab Bb
B
B D E F F# A B
C
C Eb F F# G Bb C
C#/Db
C# E F# G G# B C#
D
D F G G# A C D
D#/Eb
Eb F# Ab A Bb Db Eb
E
E G A Bb B D E
F
F Ab Bb B C Eb F
F#
F# A B C C# E F#
Yeap~ there they are, all 12 of the blues scales~ wat's interesting is dat in the future, we'll
be dealing with blues chords also! so we'll do some keyboard stuff~ excited bout dat one~ :D
