Winning Hearts And Minds

Saturday night was a most exciting night. It was the live broadcast of the results of the 2006 Singapore General Elections. I was looking forward to voting, honestly.. but yeap it was disappointing that my ward wasn't contested for. Nonetheless, this year's GE was really insightful.

I've been reading wat the newspapers have been saying about the analysis of the results of this year's GE and i do agree with much of it. I'm especially proud of the batch of opposition candidates from the SDA and in particular the WP. It's encouraging to see a strong voice out there being the watch dog, keeping the ruling PAP's policies in check.

Singapore needs all the talented human resource it can get. And one of the great ways of demonstrating the importance of this, is in the governing of the country. With a strong opposition voice in parliament, we can achieve a pretty balanced government who would only make policies that will benefit the citizens. So ultimately the biggest winners are the people and dat's the whole idea.

Personally, i am neither anti-PAP nor anti-Opposition. I am only anti-incompetent politicians and incompetent parties. So really, it doesnt matter whether it is the PAP or the Opposition that forms the govt. Wat really matters is dat we get the best of the best into parliament, MPs whose only aims and agendas are to make the lives of people better and brighter.

It was really a pleasant surprise to see the WP and SDA do well despite only retaining their strongholds Potong Pasir and Hougang. Almost all opposition candidates in either SMC or GRC wards experienced an increase in voter percentage by about an average 5%, with the exception of the SDP.

Well, there's so much power in the hands of a politician. Good leaders bring the people forward, and bad leaders bring the people backward. No wonder why it is crucially important dat we choose the most capable and righteous leaders because they will make or break a nation. It's not easy being a politician, and it's even mroe so if one is a God fearing politician. The world of politics is arguably, by far one of the most dirtiest and unethical, full of conniving and backstabbing. I would think dat it takes a lot of strength and courage from the Holy Spirit for someone to be involve in politics. Quite similar with media as well.

I believe it's in areas like these where God does the incomprehensible. He takes the base things of the world to put to shame the mighty~ He uses the Davids of the world to take on the Goliaths and defeat them. We need more strong men and women of God to be in these areas of life :) In the media, in the political arena and such~ These are areas that exert powerful influence over the nation. Have you ever wondered what if the media and government were controlled by a group of God fearing men and women? Can you imagine what kinda impact that would have NOT ONLY in society but in the region and beyond?? Amazing i would think, mind blowing to be exact!

I often feel that there's some kinda streak of yearning within me.. it's like i wanna lead.. yeah, the desire to be the head and not the tail~ I always picture myself (yea i fantasize about stuff like dat haha!) leading tens of thousands into battle (i love LOTR hahha), or addressing a huge crowd, or being a preacher, or teaching.. something... whether it's music or wat not.. and the bottom line is.. yes i am called to influence ppl :) i know dat for sure man~ i am very well aware of dat, and it's something dat i needa seek God about to find out more~ Soemthing i gotta treasure and not miss...
