Gospel Of Heresy
I was just watching on national geographic the gospel of judas..
To be honest, i am pretty appalled at it la. And i have very good reasons too because the documentary is so skewed.. the arguments in support for this piece of heresy is so weak and the so called 'researchers' they interviewed didnt give accurate definitions of what it means to be a christian and what it means to be a gnostic.
One of them even said that the early gnostics didnt call themselves gnostics but rather christians, they didnt regard themselves as being different from the rest of the christians. And just by dat claim, the person effectively places christians and gnostics on the same level which is nonsense. It's just the same as this: Just by saying dat you are a doctor doesnt make you one! Or just by saying dat you are a pilot doesnt make you one! You need some sorta qualification. And those researchers didnt distinguish wat dat qualification was.
The truth is gnostics are heretics who really were just out to undermine the real christian faith. I took the following passage from this website Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry or CARM:
http://www.carm.org/lost/gospel_of_judas.htm
"...Another issue is regarding Gnosticism which was not properly represented. Gnosticism basically states that God cannot become incarnate. The show suggested that gnostics were Christians, but this cannot be since they contradict one of the essential doctrines of the Christian faith -- which was also taught in the Old Testament (Zech. 12:10). John the apostle who wrote 1 John addressed the early formation of Gnostic thought in Chapter 4 when he denounced those as antichrists who denied that Jesus had "come in the flesh." National Geographic failed miserably to represent Christian theology and instead misrepresented Gnosticism, trying to make it appear that the present Christian theological system was merely the result of political happenstance...."
The rest of the article can be read on the website. The bible clearly states that in the last days, there will arise many false prophets and those who claim that they are the Messiah. And some will even try to deceive the people of God or the elect as the bible calls us. And it's as the bible says~ Just look at how National Geographic is coming up with a whole series of documetaries which are quite anti-christian such as "What if Jesus wasnt the only Messiah?" etc etc. Just look at the amount of hype that dan brown's da vinci code has generated. Some people even believe that fiction to be factual! Deception and antinomianism..
Hmm, well, the bible gives us an instruction to be always ready to give an answer for the defense of the Gospel, in what we beleive in :) And dat is where apologetics comes into the picture :) Good news is, there are many sources where we can find such material to study~ the CARM website is one of the most comprehensive and substantiated websites on apologetics. Others include books by authors like Lee Strobel and Josh McDowell.
As christians, we all gotta do our part in separating what is right and wrong, what is truth and what is deceit :) By learning how to discern (God has given us His Holy Spirit to help us know the right from wrong), we become mroe aware of the tools dat the devil uses to try to undermine our faith in Christ. By knowing mroe about why the truth we believe in is THE ONLY truth, we can strengthen our faith in the promises of God and help our fellow bros and sises in Christ build up theirs as well~
Eph 6:10-20 says:
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
