Double Vision

Are we by chance talkin bout the movie? No not here.. i'm not a very movie person. Let me guess, if i remember correctly, it's either some Hong Kong or Korean movie.. dat's bout it i cant recall anymore. However, Double Vision happens to appeal to me aurally~ yes i did say aurally~

One fine day yesterday, i boarded the bus home as i usually do so immediately after work. Being the same ol routine me, sumthin borderline paranormal sorta happened dat made me get my butt off the seat and off the bus. I headed straight for Borders.

You know CD shops always have like cd players and headphones rite? to let their customers pre-listen to news singles etc? yea but there's just one problem. you see, many a times, you dun get to listen to the cd dat u pick off the shelves no? the player always has a limited number of cds already stored in there dat's just waiting to be activated at the push of a button. Now dat i'm used to seein. So i was pretty clueless when i wanted to listen to some random cds on one of these players at borders. why? there werent any cds in sight. no. actually, all u could see was a red streak of light - a laser beam. apparently, you take the cd dat you wanna listen to, and have the barcode scanned under the laser beam? and bingo! you get to listen to your fav cd anytime anywhere! cool aint? dat does away with any loading of CDs and opens up a whole variety of choice! I havent been to cd stores in a long while so if this has been implemented for some time already then i apologise. But i still think it's a wonderful system!

One drawback though. u see, borders has this security thing they use to encase their cds? it's like wat a chastity belt is to the human? yea, and er, well it makes some of those erm.. hard to reach places.. hard to reach basically.. wat the hell, yes so wat i'm trying to say is dat, these security cd 'jails' interfere with the scanning of the barcodes depending on where the barcode is on the cd cover. Most CDs i've come across have the barcodes at the corner of the CD face, and if you're unlucky enough to have the bulky bit of the security sleeve OVER dat barcode, man you are not gonna be able to scan dat barcode. Coupled with the shallow depth of the scanner, (there's only so far as to how deep the CD can be placed under the receiving unit before it can go in no longer) and dat's a problem because wat happens when the barcode is placed somewhere in the middle of the CD? Ah.. yea dat means no demo for u my fren~ Take a trip down to borders, and you'll understand wat i mean~

So let's talk about Double Vision. DV is a collaboration between Bob James and David Sanborn. Bob James is some famous keybordist. David Sanborn is one famous alto saxophonist whose sound can be described as aggressive, melodic and very emotional. I love each and every of the 7 tracks in this album but my favourite tracks are 'Maputo' the 1st track, 'Never Enough' the 6th track, the 2nd track 'More Than Just Friends' and there's one song i wanna talk about and dat's 'Since I Fell For You', featuring vocalist Al Jarreau. Man, every Clay Aiken fan should listen to this song and then they will tell me dat Clay Aiken himself should sing this song. There's a part in this song whereby he sounds EXACTLY like Clay Aiken. While listenin to this track at borders with my eyes closesd and my mind wanderin in the air, i jerked my head at that point and i was wonderin, "hey wat the hell is Clay Aiken doin in there?! He's single is not gonna be out till some time later!" haha! Hey Clive Davis you hearin this??, this should be Clay Aiken's next single!

Besides Double Vision though, i listened to one of Astrud Gilberto's and JAZZ' Round Midnight with Stan Getz. Yea, a whole lotta bossa nova yesterday~ Anyway, i saw wat wanted, heard wat i liked, and i got wat i wanted. Well, no not at borders though. I got Double Vision at Gramaphone for a steal may i add! man, i'd pay $17 bucks again for Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto! Ok i'm one happy man tonight~ i'm goin back to more Double Vision. dat David Sanborn is one helluva saxophone player.. Oh did i mention dat he uses a Selmer Mark VI alto sax with a Bobby Dukoff mouthpiece dat has a D8 super power chamber and Rico LaVoz reeds?? :P
