Not So Very Minor Pains In The Ass

Finally, today's lesson was when i finally got exposed to all the minor scales. 12 Melodic and 12 Harmonic~ it's really interesting. Harmonic minors have similar ascending and descending scales with the 7th degrees of the scale sharpened. They sound very arabian nightsy kinda tune.

And for the melodic minor scales, the 6th and 7th degrees are sharpened on the ascending scale but flattened as they descend down the scale. And how you derive the minor key from its relative major is also very easy. You basically shift down 3 semitones or 1 1/2 tones. for example, from C maj scale, shift 3 semitones down, B Bb A, you get A minor. So Eb major will give you D Db C, C minor and so on and so forth.

I got a chance to try out the Rovner Light ligature today at lesson. Seems to me dat it's much easier to play the reed because it's now more free to vibrate in place. Also, i can afford to use a harder reed now because the ligature makes the reed very free playing, giving a very resonant sound. Hopefully, i can get to try it out again at Accent because they just had a new arrival of stock. Boon Chye will be there also to get a few ligs of his own. After dat it's Script Lecture..

I just spent about 6 bucks or so on air freshening scented wooden balls. These i got from the scent shop. My other freshener's like dead already. I reckoned the balls would be better cos they really are strong scented~ the epach flavoured ones were the nicest smelling of the lot~ got 5 of em~ my sax is gonna be smelling like peachies man~ no more stinkin raw kinda smell anymore~
