Scales..scales..scales..scales..

I've always wondered: Why do ppl hate scales so much?? I cant understand why dat's the case.. even my instructor finds dat scales can be boring to practise as well. But dat's no excuse to not practise it cos scales are the best way to build a strong technique, slow and steady~ Maybe it's just me, i'm a lil weirder than the rest and perhaps dat's a gd thing cos i really love scales~ yes i said it, i love scales, they fascinate me~ and hopefully i can keep up this interest in it~

This happens to be my 2nd sax lesson, after a full week. This time it was a 2 hour lesson and more or less, we'll be having a one hour lesson every thursday and a 2 hour lesson every saturday. 3 hours per week. Alot? erm, no, not at all. compared to the cats who practise day in day out in music sch, 3 hours per week is miniscule :) those fellas practise for 8 plus hours a day, 7 times a week, 4 weeks a month and 9 plus months a year for 4 freakin years!! talk about putting time into practice! 3 hours a week.. hm even i think it's too little... sheesh..

Anyway, it was a really fruitful lesson this morning. In 2 hours, we did a lil bit of tonguing exercises, practised my G maj scale, learnt ANOTHER 5 new scales, and focused on perfecting the embouchure~ hm, i'm actually seeing gd results, as pertainin to the embouchure, those Larry Teal embouchure muscle exercises are really working! i'd be able to perfect the embouchure in a much shorter time! wonderful man~ try not to be impatient though~ certain things need time before they get better~

Tonguing is HARD man! wah lau! it is really damn challenging to tongue on the release instead of the attack! and my tongue muscle is not as strong as my embouchure's.. practise practise practise~ the good thing today was dat my tone is improving and B.C commented dat he liked wat he was hearing~ and coming from someone who is ultra frank, whereby if u sucked, he'd tell u straight in your face and if you sounded great, he'll compliment you, dat compliment really boosts the confidence~ frankly, i never thought dat i'd be on such a good path now. i've got the support, i've got the guidance, i'm just glad dat i'm stayin on the right path so far :)

Examinations

I was told to take theory exams because dat would really help me in my application to university? Boon Chye suggested theory until grade 5 and practical until grade 8~ yea sounds damn gd but we have a problem though, we gotta do this within a short space of 1 1/2 years... WAH LAU... yes.. tis gonna take divine intervention man... but i'm really glad dat he's got a lot of faith in me and personally, i'd go all out to do my best in those~ so rite now, the game plan's changed, this time round we're gonna be workin towards preparing for the exam :) taogay and more taogay~ wonderful... bring it on man!
