The pearl's gone down!
I'm happy~ very very happy because the one man dat gets on my nerves with his arrogance on the playing field has finally been knocked out of the 2003 world pool championships~ YEAH!! earl the pearl strickland is on his way back to the USA! yeah baby! fuckin attitude problem.. and he gets a lot of flack from the European crowd~ earl happens to be the 2002 champion, which makes him defending champion. Alas, all dat is no more!
The man who derailed the pearl happens to be a virtual unknown from Germany~ Thorsten Hoemann practically DESTROYED the pearl 11-4 in a race to 11 games in the semi-finals live this afternoon~ the pearl will have to settle for third best~ Hoemann meets Alex the Lion Pagulayan, a Canadian resident of Philippino descent. Alex defeated his opponent Tony Drago from Malta in the other semi-final match 11-6.
This is truly an unexpected outcome in this years championships. The only 3 asian countries - korea, philippines and taiwan had altogether 4 representatives but were knocked out in the quarter final stage. Both hot favourites, Philippino Francisco "Django" Bustamante and Taiwanese Yang Ching Shun were considered Asia's cream of the crop. Django fell by only one game point to Hoemann in yesterday's quarter final match 10-11 while Yang lost 9-11 to the pearl. The huge lead that earl established early in the game proved too much for Yang as he fought and crawled back to 9-10, only to scratch on the break shot in the 20th rack, thus turning the table over to strickland who promptly ran the rack and booked his spot in the semi-final match with Hoemann.
I sound like i'm writing a sports article.. anyway, check your newspapers for the finals~ and as much as i like this german guy, i'm rooting for a Canadian win~ Alex being both Asian and Canadian~ you go man!
