The Woodwind Fingering Guide

This is one great website~ Has been on my bloggy for a long time already. Just started
looking at it recently and realised that they classified altissimo into like lower altissimo
register, middle altissimo register and upper altissimo register. Pretty comprehensive,
straightforward and well organised with numeral and alphabetical descriptions, as well
as graphical representations of the different fingerings.

Realised dat according to the classification, i've managed to hit the middle altissimo register. So
alt D and upwards is the upper altissimo range. I can hit 39 tones, 3 tones short of 3 1/2 octaves.
They have like 52 or so tones which is like 4 octaves and 2 tones which in my opinion, i think is
crazy! The fingerings get fewer and fewer and as the pitch goes higher, it really becomes like
screeching instead of music.

To stretch the saxophone range till anywhere between 44 - 48 tones is really pushing the limits.
For a saxophonist to hit anywhere between 3 1/2 to 4 octaves and hit each note's intonation
clean and precise is really the end of the road for altissimo in a musical sense, because as far
as music is concern, there's only so high a pitch can go until it sounds un-music-like. So i'll be
contented to hit anywhere between 42 - 48 tones :D

I've found a lot of the fingerings dat i use to be in the guide as well and this guide has alot
more fingerings for the same note, like as much as 20 or so fingerings for the same note but
each has different qualities, some flatter, some sharper, some more difficult to produce, some
having excellent intonation etc.

I think i'll print out the stuff and try some of the fingerings for myself and compare how each
works~ Am pretty excited to see which fingerings give me the best tone on my set up!
